An early enameled teapot and cover

Edo period, mid-17th century


of hexagonal form and round neck, loop handle and curved spout, decorated in iron red, green, blue and black enamels, with a profusion of tree peony, the cover similarly decorated with Johanneum mark N=53- to the underside of the cover and base


11.5 cm., 4½ in. high

August the Strong (Augustus II, 1670-1733), Elector of Saxony and King of Poland, Japanese Palace, Dresden.
