The Property of a Gentleman

A group of tea ceremony ceramics

Edo period, 17th - 18th century 


the first a Takatori hanaike [flower vase] of coiled form with tall neck, decorated overall with dripped ochre glazes; the second a Bizen sake flask of ovoid form with short everted neck and rounded, decorated in ochre glazes falling to the shoulder; the third a Kiyomizu ware bowl with lug handles on three prunt feet, the deep bowl with a design in green, aubergine, iron red and gilt, with roundels of butterflies and peonies, interspersed on triangular panels of yellow, green and aubergine
