woodblock print, triptych, each sheet signed Toyokuni ga (Pictured by Toyokuni), circa 1800


Vertical oban triptych: each sheet approx. 35.7 x 26.4 cm., 14⅛ x 10½ in.

Elegantly garbed women and musicians are depicted on the upper floor of a teahouse surrounded by cherry trees in spring. Further beauties stand beside a meandering river strewn with fallen blossoms. A young gentleman being served sake on the veranda of a building on the opposite bank looks out over the scene.
