Since launching their eponymous brand in 2004, after meeting at the renowned complication maker Renaud & Papi, Robert Greubel and Stephen Forsey have been responsible for the design, development, and manufacturing of some of the most complex and innovative watches of the 21st century. Their watches have received multiple awards, including the prestigious Grand Prix de l'Aiguille d'Or at the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG), for groundbreaking complications such as their Double Tourbillon 30° (DT30°), the Quadruple Tourbillon à Différentiel, and the Tourbillon 24 Secondes Incliné.
The Double Tourbillon 30 degrees was introduced in 2004 and features a patented double tourbillon system with a tourbillon inclined at 30 degrees that rotates every 60 seconds while the inner tourbillon carriage rotates every four minutes. The aim of this is to increase the accuracy of the mechanism, something Greubel Forsey conclusively proved in 2011, when it won the Concours International de Chronométrie with a score of 915 points out of 1000, the highest score seen in the competition to date. The present example is fitted with sapphire crystal and skeletonized dial that opens up the movement allowing the observer to be mesmerize by the individual components that complete this incredible work of art. When winding the watch, the quadruple barrel can be seen rotating and powers the watch for 120 hours, with the power reserve indicator found at 3 o’clock on the dial. At 9 o’clock, one can see a register for the seconds and the double tourbillon is positioned at 6 o’clock and is the most prominent features of this wristwatch. The platinum case of the current watch is hand engraved and finished, as is the movement that sets the standard for the industry.
