The reference 101.027X is a very special and rare version of the famous Lange 1. Lange & Söhne is – besides some other German watch brand such as Glashütte SA or Nomos – based in the small town of Glashütte in Saxonia. In 2002, the state government of Saxonia prepared the application as UNESCO World Heritage Site for the Elbe Valley area. Lange & Söhne had planned to introduce the 101.027X to celebrate this event. UNESCO deprived the title shortly after due to some misrepresented information. As Lange already had started production of the reference the brand decided to sell them reagrdless though they omitted them from their catalogue. It is estimated that as few as 300 examples were produced over 5 years in the early 2000s.

What makes the present lot even more special among other rare reference 101.027X watches is that it comes with a folding clasp instead of the standard pin buckle. It was sold in Germany, is fresh to the market and offered by its original owner. The present watch is an incredible chance to buy a piece of German watchmaking history.
