One of the most celebrated Sea-Dweller references, the 1665 was released in 1967 with the world of diving in mind thanks to the gas escape valve that allowed helium and other gas to escape under compression and guaranteed waterproofness to an astonishing 610 meters depth.

The 'double red' nickname originates in the double lines of text printed in red on the dial, which had many dial variations, the present one being a Mark IV, the very final version of the original dials. This mark is characterised by a subtle heavier print for both the red and white texts on the dial and the 'o' in Rolex below the coronet having a pronounced opening.
