Patek Philippe

The reference 5089, which belongs to the Rare Handcrafts Collection, was initially launched in 2014 to celebrate the 175th Anniversary of Patek Philippe. Every year after, and up to 2019, new dial themes for the reference 5089 appeared at the occasion of any Rare Handcrafts exhibition. The present lot is from the “Steam Locomotive” series created in 2018. One of the most legendary players in the railroad epic of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries proudly displays its plume of smoke on the dial of this limited edition timepiece, created by grand feu cloisonné enamel. To create the contours of the bodywork, the chimney, the wheels and the smallest technical details, were shaped with 75 cm of gold wire by hand. To convey volume and the reflections on the metal, the enameller worked with a palette of transparent and opaque enamels in eight colors. Some particular features are also illuminated by silver leaf embedded beneath the enamel.
