First introduced in 1998, the coveted 5070 owes its design to the vintage, mature style of reference 2512. In fact, the 5070 is almost identical in appearance - dual subdials that interrupt the Arabic numerals, and an outer tachymeter that is further encircled by a periphery minute track. Most interesting however, is the large but stepped case, a design that is simultaneously modern and quaintly grounded to the early 20th century. The 5070 would be discontinued in around 2009, but Patek Philippe would later recall the reference in extremely limited quantities to commemorate a special occasion, giving birth to the current lot.

The current pink gold 5070, is believed to be one of five to have been made for the 2015 ‘Patek Philippe Watch Art Grand Exhibition’ held at London’s Saatchi gallery. Over 12 days, the event captivated a wealth of people and displayed only the finest and rarest of Patek Philippe’s craft. Naturally, with such an exclusive and prestigious purpose, not intended for public sale, this elusive variant was only endowed to select members with esteemed standing within Patek Philippe. Additionally, the 5070 examples made for the event were incredibly unique, while the traditional pink gold 5070 is fashioned in a silvered dial, the current watch features an elusive black dial, a tasteful contrast to the hefty shine of the pink gold. Delicately crafted for exhibition, but still immensely functional, the current lot presents the rare opportunity to acquire an incredibly notable piece of Patek Philippe’s heritage.
