Since its relatively recent introduction in 2001, the sporty ultra-luxury Richard Mille has already become coveted and loved by many. From the high-speed thrills of motorsports to the adrenaline-fueled arenas of tennis or golf, their watches have become a fixture on the wrists of sporting icons. Of course, with an identity almost inalienable from the world of sports, the brand has always been committed to performance, a phenomenon exemplified by their relentless pursuit of lightweight materials and shock-resistance movements.
Named after the famous Argentinian polo player Pablo Mac Donough, Richard Mille devised the present watch to withstand the intense physical exposure of a timepiece when playing this sport, where violent movements and shocks are constant. In order to address this, the watch is cased in a hefty and resistant titanium case and the apertures for reading the hours, minutes and seconds are cleverly positioned at a 30° angle to enhance their legibility when horse-riding. Furthermore, this spectacular ‘armored’ design not only greatly reinforces the durability of the watch - a much needed element in the sport of polo, but it also imbues the current watch with an unmistakable and unique appearance. The addition of a tourbillon, first developed by the famous Abraham-Louis Breguet to counter the effect of gravity on the balance wheel and spring, showcases Richard Mille's horological expertise but also exemplifies their quest for time-keeping precision beyond their avantgarde aesthetics.
