The present lot is a timepiece that exquisitely encapsulates the innovative spirit of Jaeger-LeCoultre. While watchmakers have struggled for centuries to completely negate the effect of gravity on timekeeping precision, the Gyrotourbillon 1 is one of the world’s first to solve the issue with a multi-axis tourbillon. With its spherical cage that was in constant rotation across two axes, the positional error due to gravity was practically negated to zero. But it was not enough for Jaeger-LeCoultre to just feature a cutting-edge invention, for integrated in its case is not only a perpetual calendar, but a sun-shaped minute hand for the equation of time indicator.
The current reference is also assembled with a semi-skeletonised dial, befitting for such an innovation as the open aperture gracefully boasts the tourbillon that is the heart of the movement. A watch so incredibly complicated to craft, there is no wonder that production was only limited to 75 pieces, with even less to have ever resurfaced on market. Therefore, we are incredibly honored to present the exceptionally rare opportunity to acquire such a pivotal limited-edition piece.
