At the beginning of the 2000s, Richard Mille found himself at a crossroads. How could he expand the brand while staying faithful to its core DNA? The RM016 emerged as the solution, making its debut in 2007. This watch marked a stark departure, forsaking the brand's signature tonneau case in favor of a more angular rectangular shape. Moreover, the RM016 incorporated an ultra-thin movement and a shift towards higher levels of movement finishing and refinement when compared to the earliest RM wristwatches. This evolution continues to be evident in current references.
The RM016 was offered in a range of metals and dials, with our current example being a titanium model, considered more desirable than the gold versions. Hammer’s RM016 comes complete with its boxes, papers, and accessories, along with additional straps for the timepiece. Upon its release, the RM016 represented a truly avant-garde design, setting the foundation for Richard Mille's ascent as a darling of the horological community and a cornerstone of independent watch brands.
