Introduced at SIHH in 2017, the A. Lange & Söhne Tourbograph Perpetual 'Pour le Mérite' stands as a pinnacle in the esteemed 'Pour le Mérite' series. Originating in 1994 after the resurgence of Lange post the Berlin Wall's fall, this series has evolved over the years. Comprising five models thus far, each boasts varying degrees of complications, all bound by a common thread: the presence of a fusée-and-chain mechanism. This intricately designed feature is essentially a constant force mechanism consisting of a large conical gear attached to the mainspring barrel with a chain. This chain balances out the torque from the barrel as it winds down, keeping the watch more accurate.
The Tourbograph Perpetual “Pour le Mérite” is the fifth watch in the series, and advances upon the foundation laid by the 1994 Tourbillon “Pour le Mérite.” It retains both the chain-and-fusée and the tourbillon, while introducing a chronograph with rattrapante, akin to the 2005 model, and culminating with the inclusion of a perpetual calendar. Limited to a mere 50 pieces in platinum and an additional 50 in honey gold, the Tourbograph Perpetual is the most complicated model in the 'Pour le Mérite' series to date. Powered by the manual winding L133.1 caliber composed of 684 components (or 1320 components if you count each link in the chain-and-fusée), it represents the exceptional engineering and craftsmanship that goes into creating these timepieces, further elevating A. Lange & Söhne’s status among watch enthusiasts and collectors.
The present example cased in platinum, is offered with its full suite of accessories and numbered 34.
