Renowned watchmaker Kari Voutilainen, celebrated for his in-house crafted movements, cases, and intricate guilloché dials, has a dedicated following among independent watch enthusiasts. His timepieces, characterized by meticulous hand finishing, exemplify his commitment to manual craftsmanship.
The 2018 launch of the reference 217QRS embodies Voutilainen's philosophy. This wristwatch showcases an elegant, robust mechanism within a stylish case. The in-house movement, inspired by the Vingt-8, is entirely designed, fabricated, finished, and assembled in Voutilainen's workshops. The movement incorporates a retrograde date function seamlessly integrated into the mechanism, allowing for effortless adjustment with a simple press of the crown. When transitioning from the 31st to the 1st, the date doesn't merely shift abruptly but elegantly "glides" back, a motion that spans nearly 2 seconds—a feature that demanded significant time and effort for Voutilainen to perfect. Additionally setting it apart, it is the first watch to have two escapement wheels in such a configuration. This configuration provides a direct impulse to the balance, requiring less energy than traditional lever escapements, resulting in enhanced durability and stability for daily wear.
Limited to 30 pieces (10 each in platinum, white gold, and rose gold), each case metal offers a distinct dial configuration. The present lot is a white gold variant, with an engined-turned gray dial featuring Roman numerals. We are pleased to offer this watch, numbered 6/10, complete with its original accessories including the beautifully crafted Cedric Vichard presentation box.
