To quote a Rolex advertisement, ‘Men Who Guide the Destines of the World Wear Rolex Watches’. That statement is likely never truer than with the Rolex Day-Date, often referred to as ‘The President’. Crafted exclusively in precious metals, it is one of the most prestigious watches in the Rolex catalog since its introduction.
Perhaps the most exclusive metal to ever be offered in the Day-Date, is also the most understated – platinum. To the untrained eye, it would be easy to think of this as merely another steel Rolex, or perhaps even white gold. The subtle distinction here is in the smooth bezel which to this day remains an option offered on platinum Day-Date references.
As if the platinum case was not enough, the present example is also fitted with a stunning Onyx dial. These are very rare to find, and the hallmarks of an Onyx dial made for a platinum Day-Date are the silver printing, and matching aperture frames. Even the handset is the correct ‘no-lume’ variant. Altogether, this creates a shockingly modern and monochromatic effect. Exceptionally preserved in collector grade condition, this is an exceptional Rolex throughout.
