In the Netherlands, brothers Tim & Bart Grönefeld have been producing exceptional wristwatches with meaningful dedication to haute horology since 2009. Their flagship model is known as the 1941 – paying tribute to the year their father was born. The elegant case shape has become home to several important models – but none perhaps as special as the Deccennium Tourbillon of 2019.

Produced solely in platinum, and in a strict 10 piece series, the Deccennium Tourbillon celebrates 10 years of the Grönefeld maison. While the tourbillon has been around since 1801, the high degree of technical excellence needed to produce one has long made it a feather in the cap of any watchmaker. Marrying this 200-year-old complication with modern design sensibilities, this timepiece is a true feast for the eyes. The movement is nothing short of breathtaking – featuring over a dozen different finishing techniques. The elegant contrast between sand-blasting and raised polishing is striking, while the reliance on gold chatons around the jewels is a true callback to the golden age of watchmaking.

The dial is equally beautiful, in both color and finishing, allowing the gentle icy blue color of the dial not to distract from the blue steel hands or the open tourbillon cage at 6. Being one of just ten watches produced, these platinum wonders seldom become available and with interest in Grönefeld continuing to grow, this is sure to become an important milestone in the brand's history.
