Description
Freddie Mercury's stage-worn 'Heaven 86' vest and associated off-stage T-shirts, mid-1980s
A white ribbed cotton vest printed in blue and red ‘Heaven ’86 London’, labelled inside ‘Mark Christian London’; this or an identical vest photographed being worn by Freddie on stage during the 'Magic' Tour, 1986; and four ‘Heaven London’ logo cotton T-shirts in various shades of blue: navy, pale, turquoise and sky
(qty 5)
In footage of Queen leaving the historic Knebworth concert, 9 August, 1986, Queen’s last live performance together, Freddie can be seen wearing this, or an identical vest, under his white military jacket.
See lot 250 for the ‘Champion’ vest worn on stage, and lot 2256 for the shirt Freddie wore on arrival by helicopter.
Heaven was opened in December 1979 by Jeremy Norman and was the first gay superclub of its time. The original hi-tech interior was designed by his partner, Derek Frost. Norman, an entrepreneur, had started an earlier club, The Embassy, in Old Bond Street in 1978, of which Freddie had membership, see lot 2038. Heaven was acquired by Richard Branson in 1982.
