Freddie Mercury's casual attire, including a satin jacket and a Hawaiian-style shirt, c.1977


A short tailored jacket of black ‘wet-look’ satin with angular cut, pointed hem, collar and asymmetrical lapels, embellished with geometric motifs hand-painted in silver to chest and side, fastening with tie belt, lined in black ‘silk’, labelled inside ‘Roley Suke’, c.1978, with:


a short-sleeved Hawaiian-style shirt with pointed collar, the mid blue ground printed in a pattern of figures in open boats, hills, waves and trees in green, brown, white and orange, fastening with brown plastic buttons, labelled inside ‘Brent’, c.1977, and;


a pair of cream wool wide-legged flared trousers with pleated fronts and coin pockets at the waistband to either side of the front fastening, labelled inside ‘renoma’ paris’, c.1977

Freddie was photographed wearing this or an identical Hawaiian style shirt with John Reid in 1977, and a very similar if not identical pair of trousers in an Antiques Emporium in New York in 1977.
