Freddie Mercury's black and white striped catsuit and ballet shoes, worn on stage November 1977 to May 1978


Black and white striped long sleeved elastane catsuit with high curved neckline and integral feet, each vertical stripe a separate narrow panel stitched alongside its opposing colour, the neckline and cuffs edged in black and the soles of the feet shaped entirely from white, unlabelled;

and two pairs of leather ballet shoes, one black, the other white, both pairs interior soles stamped with maker’s details, the black pair ‘SELVA’, the white pair FREED, London’ also stamped on leather soles with size: ‘8’ both black and white pairs of shoes with elastic strap, both pairs of shoes showing signs of considerable use

It seems that Freddie had approximately four versions of this black and white striped catsuit. Three of which are included in this auction (also lots 48 and 193). A similar catsuit, also slashed to the waist, was sold at auction in 2013.
