Description

Freddie Mercury's bespoke Japanese bolero-style pale green jacket with Japanese figures

the bespoke Japanese bolero-style jacket of mixed fabrics, the jacket of pale green synthetic fibre printed with a pattern including Japanese figures and cranes on the front and Mount Fuji on the back; the front with two large Kamon heraldic symbol patches fastened to a hem of blue, gold and silver check brocade, the gold, silver and yellow brocade collar of zig-zag pattern with checked cotton trim, the interior hem with a Hawaiian type printed fabric, concealed hook and eye fastening to front, unlined, unlabelled

This garment was probably made specifically for Freddie using mostly Japanese fabrics. However it is believed that the jacket was probably made outside Japan as it has been made so that Mount Fuji is upside down on the back.
