A group of five t-shirts, various designs and makers, comprising: a blue t-shirt printed in yellow and red ‘Manhattan’, labelled ‘Sportswear’, the label additionally inscribed in black felt pen in an unidentified hand ‘ONE’; a white t-shirt printed in blue ‘Copacabana / Rio de Janeiro’, labelled ‘A.Vargas’; a white t-shirt printed in blue, red and black ‘Rumours ’86 / Blue Heaven’ with an image of a cocktail, labelled ‘Screen Stars’’; a white t-shirt printed either side ‘1990’ in a circle with the letter ‘M’, label removed; and a white t-shirt printed on the front with a red flame design and in black ‘Ibiza Ibiza’ and on the back in red ‘KU IBIZA’ labelled ‘KU Summer’s Collection Ibiza’, see lot 59 for a photograph of Freddie with friends in Ibiza all wearing these t-shirts and matching tracksuit bottoms; for another of these t-shirts see lot 2205 and for the tracksuit bottoms see lot 2260.

PROVENANCE

The Ku nightclub in Ibiza was a favourite of Freddie’s, and the venue for his legendary 41st birthday party later the same year in September. It was also the venue where Freddie and Montserrat Caballé performed ‘Barcelona’ on 29 May, 1987 during the festival known as ‘Ibiza ‘92’ to celebrate Spain hosting the 1992 Summer Olympics.
