The Ulysse Nardin San Marco Achille was introduced in 2008 as a limited of 30 pieces each in platinum and pink gold, such as the present lot. The long and demanding process of creation of its absolutely stunning dial largely explains this very low quantity of examples made. They were crafted by Donze Cadrans, an historical supplier of enamelled dials for Ulysse Nardin, which acquired the company later on, in 2011. Each of the Achille dial requires over one meter of fine gold wire of 0.06 mm thickness, thirty times of baking as each colour has a different temperature and over 80 hours of the most meticulous work. During that process, a single mistake forces the enameller to start again from the beginning. This incredibly craftmanship allows to render very faithfully the HMS Achille, housing 74 guns, in font of the Fort Rochefort. The ship was commanded by Captain Richard King and took part to the Battle of Trafalgar.
The Ulysse Nardin timepieces are inspired by the sea and this present watch illustrates it in the most attractive way.
Further to its dial, the watch impresses by its COSC certified automatic movement revealed through the sapphire display back.
The pink gold case has a diameter of 40mm, meeting the contemporary requirements.
These captivating pieces rarely appear on the market, especially in such attractive condition and with a most complete set of accessories as the present example.
