The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Day Date Moon-phases, 25594, was introduced in 1985. It was the evolution of the Reference 25572, which was introduced 2 years before and did not have the moon-phases indication.
The combination of the useful complications and the elegant 36mm case diameter offered by the 25594 immediately met a great success and was part of the offering of Audemars Piguet for over 20 years. The model went through 3 main evolutions that are identified through the dial signature and the hands. This example is the ultimate version with the big serif logo and bolder hands, allowing a better readability.
While it was produced in different metals, the combination of steel and gold, like with this lot, only represents about a quarter of the production. The two-tone case and bracelet are perfectly complemented by the light grey dial with gilt indexes and subsidiary dials.
