The IWC Da Vinci perpetual calendar and chronograph was launched in 1985 under the reference 3750 and is one of the most important models in the history of the brand. At the time, this introduction marked the comeback of complicated mechanical timepieces, one year before the famous Patek Philippe 3970.
Beside the wider known yellow gold version on leather strap, IWC also produced some exclusive highly precious example, such as this lot, fitted on a solid gold bracelet and with a pavé diamond-set dial with ruby-set indexes. It bears the reference 9253, which stands for the diamond-set version on bracelet. IWC paid the highest attention to details with these pieces. For example, the red of the ruby indexes are echoed by the hands that have their central parts painted in a similar shade and the sky of the moon-phase is shimmering.
Rarely appearing at auction and with some examples kept in prestigious collections, this lot is a rare opportunity to acquire at the same time an impressive and exclusive model of the most famous IWC, a grande complication timepiece and an icon that marked the rebirth of the watch industry.
