The Tag Heuer 6000 series was launched in 1994. The brand asked Jorg Hysek, better known to have created the Vacheron Constantin 222, to design these flagship models that were going to be amongst the most popular pieces of that time. In addition to the more standard stainless-steel versions, Tag Heuer produced some luxurious pieces using precious metal. The present watch is a very rare example of the top-end production with a solid yellow gold case and a very heavy matching bracelet. Most of these gold pieces were delivered on a leather strap as the list price was already high and the bracelet commanded an important additional premium. The dial for these precious metal versions was different to the normal production. It has luminescent dot indexes and Tag Heuer shield indexes at 12, 6 and 9 o’clock. It further has an angled inner bezel featuring the minute scale. These gold watches were available with bespoke dial, including mother-of-pearl, green and blue versions, such as on the present lot.
In addition to be a top-end luxury watch, the Reference WH514 was also a true diving watch with screw-down crown and back as well as uni-directional bezel and mercedes hands. The sapphire glass has a magnifying cyclop at 3 o’clock for the date.
The chronometer rated automatic movement was the Calibre 7, which is still used today.
Rarely appearing on the market, especially on its most luxurious version with its gold bracelet and with its bright blue dial, this Tag Heuer 6000 Series is the opportunity to acquire an icon from the 1990’s designed by a master designer.
