The Black Bay collection of watches is Tudor’s best-selling range, highly sought-after thanks to its combination of vintage aesthetics and modern craftmanship. Released in 2012, the collection draws inspiration from the Tudor Oyster Prince Submariner ref. 7922, which was first launched in 1954. To that end, the present reference will attract those interested in vintage design with a preference for more contemporary pieces.
The Royalty and specialist protection unit are an elite wing of the British police charged with guarding members of parliament and the Royal family. In 2022 Tudor collaborated with the unit to commemorate Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee, each watch features the RaSP logo of a Tudor rose with a crown resting above at six o’clock and bears an engraving on the case back.
The present watch comes from the original owner who set up the collaboration of Tudor with the Royal Household, having to receive permission from Her Royal Highness the late Queen Elizabeth II herself to use the emblem on the dial. The watch is numbered 02/300 with number 01 remaining in the consignors care.
In addition to being a serving member of RaSP, the consignor also works with Ukrainian combat medics, supports them via a number of charities and personally delivering humanitarian and medical aid to those affected on the ground in Ukraine. 50% of the proceeds of this watch will go to providing vehicles to support medical response units in the war in Ukraine.
In addition to the watch itself, the lot contains a bracelet given to the consignor by the Ukrainian Military HQ in Kyiv. The bracelet is made from the last pre-war batch of steel manufactured at the Azovstal plant, which was heavily fought over and defended for 86 days by the Ukrainian military during the Siege of Mariupol, before being ordered to surrender. The watch is also accompanied by a coin, flag and patches from the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade, who have been covered heavily in the media.
