Richard Mille

Established in 2001, Richard Mille entered the world of horology with a very different philosophy than traditional companies. Taking inspiration from the world of F1 motor racing he created watches that were not only mechanically interesting but, most importantly, could be worn in a multitude of sports environments.

Richard Mille released the RM005 in 2004, its first automatic model. The greatest challenge with the RM005, was creating the titanium baseplate. The brand had to research and invest in the right type of tools to produce it. Additionally, the watchmakers had to be extremely careful not to mark the PVD treatment while assembling the movement, otherwise the entire plate would be rejected. The most rigorous engineering standards are used to construct each Richard Mille watch, similar to that of Formula 1 racing cars. The present RM005 is limited to 300 pieces and was made in collaboration with the prestigious Brazilian Formula 1 driver, Felipe Massa. A long-time test driver for Richard Mille watches, it was he who enabled the brand to initiate and accomplish astonishing feats in watchmaking development. The RM005 Felipe Massa is fitted with a grade 5 titanium case, double barrel system and a PVD-coated bottom plate, bridges and balance cock. Its case dimensions of 38 by 45 mm make it perfect for the individual with a smaller wrist, or those looking for a more classically proportion Richard Mille.
