Only 5 years after the first Datejust, the complicated Rolex reference 6062 made its debut at Baselworld in 1950. Rolex produced the reference in three metals, yellow gold, stainless steel and pink gold. Records of the case makers, Genex and Charles René Spillmann, mention that some two tone cases were produced in very small numbers. The reference was produced only for three years. Although the number of 6062 produced remains vague, about 225 have been identified on the secondary market.
The 6062 is one of two Rolex models to feature an automatic triple calendar complication with moon phases, the other reference being the 8171. However, unique to this reference is the use of an Oyster case, which enhances the durability and functionality of the watch beyond its charming design. This particular example of the watch is fitted with Rolex's, at the time, revolutionary Twinlock crown. When introduced in 1953, the crown with improved water resistance was added on the last few 6062 produced.
Please note, that given the age of the watch and previous polishing some of the digits of the serial number between the lugs are virtually illegible or may be not accurate.
