Produced between 1988 and 2004, reference 16233 was the first Datejust model to feature a sapphire crystal, instead of a plexiglass. Fitted with the automatic calibre 3135, the model was produced with a large selection of different dials and case combinations. The present example features a stainless steel and yellow gold case and Jubilee bracelet with a silvered dial adorned with diamond indexes.
An enticing reference its own right, the present lot comes from the family of the original owner, Sir Francis Vallat, who received it from the Emir of Qatar, following his very active legal involvement in a case over maritime delimitations of the states of Qatar and Bahrain, enhancing its collectability and enriching the allure of the watch.
