Rolex launched the Submariner 5513 in 1962, or 8 years after the diver's watch introduction to the market. It was produced until 1989, making it one of the longest-lasting references in the Submariner family. Its design remained quite unchanged over 27 years, however collectors can differentiate the early gloss dials from the subsequent matte dials and finally the gold-circled index dials. The present example features a matte black "meters first" dial that has developed a strong character over the years.
Sotheby's is honored to offer the collection of a former race car driver with proceeds benefiting an initiative to support children of refugees in Germany.
