Description

Set with circular-cut orange sapphires and spinels, accented by brilliant-cut diamonds, British hallmarks, signed Sam Hunter.

This piece was a prize from Max Fosh’s viral treasurer hunt which was launched in August 2022. The ‘Goldfosh’ as it is known was won by solving a riddle featured in one of Max Fosh’s YouTube videos.

The name is not only a pun on Max Fosh’s surname but a fish also allowed to create an intricate design.

He was inspired by the stories of Forrest Fenn’s treasure hunt, who hid a treasure chest that contained valuable items estimated to be worth a million dollars somewhere in the Rocky Mountains. He then published a memoir that included a poem that when solved would reveal the location of the treasure, which was eventually found in 2020.

This piece was created by the jeweller Sam Hunter, who made their first ring aged 12 and was one of the youngest entrants of the FGA gemmology diploma which he completed aged 18. Sam Hunter said 'In the world of 3D printed jewellery this goldfish is completely handmade, with traditional tools and methods’ This is something Sam is passionate about keeping alive as a classically trained goldsmith creating one-off pieces only by hand. The ‘Goldfosh’ has approximately 1,700 orange sapphires and spessartite garnets and took about approximately 2 months to make. It was completely hand-made by Sam Hunter without the use of a CAD.

The hunt for this piece began in August 2022 and was engaged with by over 2 million people from all across the globe. The individual who found it took 3 months to work it out, with it being solved in 2022. The original video setting out the challenge has been viewed over 1 million times.
