First English edition — an exceptional copy.

This edition was published in October 1917; the US edition was published the same month by George H. Doran Co.

This was to be the penultimate collection of short stories about Holmes and Watson published by Doyle. The last, The Case-Book of Sherlock Holmes, was published a decade later in 1927.
