[Poe, Edgar Allan]

Kettell, Samuel, ed. Specimens of American Poetry, with Critical and Biographical Notices. Boston: S.G. Goodrich & Co., 1829

3 vols., 12mo (196 x 122mm). 30 pp. Catalogue of American Poetry at end. Original purple-muslin backed boards, printed paper spine labels, untrimmed; but for fading to the muslin, an unusually fine example, unrestored and almost entirely unfoxed. Half morocco case.

Poe appears.

The catalog at the end (the earliest bibliography of American poetry) is the first mention of Poe's work in a book, as it lists his Tamerlane from 2 years prior.

The selection of 200 poets includes biographical sketches for each.
