2 vols., 12mo (166 x 126 mm). Half-titles, in-text illustrations and maps; one or two stray spots, but otherwise uncommonly clean and bright. Original blue-green wave-textured cloth, gilt-stamped and lettered on covers and spine, yellow coated endpapers; spines gently sunned. Housed in custom slipcase.
First edition, second issue. Nathaniel Hawthorne and his sister Elizabeth edited this Peter Parley volume published by the editor Nathaniel Goodrich, who had previously published some of the author's early tales in his literary annual The Token. This is the second printing of the first edition with volume numbers printed on the first page of each gathering.
