Description

A George III Satinwood Marquetry and Painted and Parcel-Gilt Console Table, the Inlaid Top Possibly 18th Century, on an Adam-Style Painted and Parcel Gilt Base


The serpentine-fronted satinwood top veneered in radiating panels of well-figured timber, and inset with a half-marquetry fan medallion anthemion and arched scrollwork at the back, the border inlaid with Vitruvian scrolls, the conforming frieze double-serpentine with chamfered front corners, decorated with gilt half- and full-flowerhead medallions on a dark blue ground, the whole raised on six square tapered legs painted in parcel-gilt with molded decoration of flowerheads and pendant husks.
