Called "The esthetic conscience of his generation," Louis Finkelstein was renowned not only for his paintings but as a vital force and influential teacher at Yale, the Philadelphia College of Art, the New York Studio School, and Queens College (CUNY) where he was, the head of the Art Department for twenty-five years. He was also a visiting critic/artist at other institutions and a prolific speaker and writer on art.
