A stone figure of Maravijaya Buddha Eastern India, Pala period, 10th / 11th century

Property of a retired museum curator, acquired in the 1970s, (by repute).

The Buddha is finely carved with hands in bhumisparsa mudra, seated in vajraparyankasana on a lion throne with earth goddess Prithvi beneath, flanked by two standing bodhisattva, a seated Buddha above and fragmentary leaves of the bhodi tree.
