A French gilt and patinated bronze 'Palais Royal' inkstand, second half 19th century


cast as Mercury driving a chariot, mother of pearl base and wheels, the removable glass wells with fruit-cast lids and resting in pierced baskets, and with two quill holders


14cm. high, 26cm. wide, 10.5cm. deep

This mother of pearl veneered inkstand is typical of the type of finely made Parisian objects sold in the fashionable shops of the Palais Royal, an area close to the Louvre.
