Jade tiger-head form ornament such as the present lot is used as the terminal or cap of a jade hairpin. See a closely related example excavated from Qianzhangda, Tengzhou city, illustrated in Tengzhou qianzhangda mudi [Tombs of Qianzhangda in Tengzhou], Beijing, 2005, pl. 65; and another similar example is illustrated in Gems of Beijing Cultural Relics Series: Jades, Beijing, 2002, pl. 28. 二者皆青黃玉質，雕虎首，一為陽線勾勒，一為陰線雕琢，中皆穿。
