The motif of the pig is commonly found on jade carvings from the Hongshan culture. Compare a pig ornament with similar treatment of carving to the nose and ears as the present jade pig in the Tianjin Museum, illustrated in Jades Wares Collected by Tianjin Museum, Beijing, 2012, pl. 10. The pig motif often is found as the head of the pig-dragon pendant. Jade pigs, such as the present one, with a cylindrical body are quite rare. See a Hongshan-culture jade beast with similar jade quality, carved into the shape of a beast head atop a plain bead published in ibid., pl. 11. For a comparable example of the jade cicada, refer to a Hongshan-culture jade cicada with a slightly squared head in the Balinyouqi Museum, published in Gu Fang, The Complete Collection of Jades Unearthed in China, Beijing, 2005, vol. 2, p. 29.
