Description

Public School NYC Black Silk Suit and White Cotton Tunic, 2015

Dao-Yi Chow, one of the founding partners of Public School NYC, showcased a custom-designed ensemble for the 2015 Met Gala. The outfit was crafted exclusively for the event, aligning with the theme "China: Through the Looking Glass. In homage to traditional Chinese dynastic robes, the look embraced loose-fitting and volume-heavy elements and consisted of a cashmere wool and silk faille robe jacket, pants, a sea island cotton wing-tipped high-collar tunic, and Full grain leather contrast platform Derby’s. The outfit served as a symbolic link between East and West, intending to blend antiquity with modernity, and reflected the designer's connection to his ancestry and birthplace. Chow received his official invite close to the beginning of spring which forced the team to work within a short timeframe. Pattern work, muslins, fittings, and final sewing were executed up to the day of the Gala.
