Homer
Omnia quae quidem extant opera graece, adiecta versione Latina ad verbum (Odyssea). Basel: Nikolaus Brylinger and Bartholomaeus Stähelin, 1551
2 parts in one volume, folio (317 x 205mm.), woodcut printer's device on title-pages, parallel text in Latin and Greek verse, woodcut initials, a few manuscript annotations (including manicules), with final blank leaf, contemporary blind-tooled calf over wooden boards (one border attributed by EBDB to the binder A.T. of Frankfurt an der Oder, w002200, active 1561-1566, and the other border dated 1548/9 and assigned to workshop w007312, unlocalised), two clasps, metal corner edges, occasional light staining, a few small wormholes, binding rebacked with new endpapers, lacking both straps, one metal corner defective
This bilingual edition of Homer was the work of Heinrich Pantaleon (1522-1595), scholar, translator and librarian, whose name appears in the subsequent 1553 Brylinger edition. As well as the epics of Homer, the volume contains Plutarch's life of Homer, also in parallel Latin and Greek.
