Homer
A set of Homer in Greek, printed in Strassburg in 1534, in uniform eighteenth-century French green morocco bindings, comprising:
Ιλιας [edited by Volfius Cephalaeus]. (Strassburg: Wolfgang Köpfel and Peter Braubach), 1534, title within woodcut border, woodcut device on final verso, quire N with some washed annotations (with slight staining)
Οδυσσεια. Βατραχομυομαχια. Υμνοι λβ (Ομηρου βιος). (Strassburg: Wolfgang Köpfel), 1534, 2 parts, woodcut device at end of first part
together 2 volumes, 8vo (159 x 96mm.), eighteenth-century green morocco gilt (almost certainly by Derome), flat spines gilt, gilt edges
Köpfel's edition was first printed in 1525, with the text edited by Joannes Lonicer.
The tools on the binding match those used by Nicolas-Denis Derome le jeune; a copy of this edition in green morocco by Derome was in an Evans sale, 12 May 1835, lot 447, sold for £1-9s to J. Bohn.
