[Ieron Evangelion]. (Venice: Stefano Nicolini da Sabbio for Girolamo Giraldi and Damiano Santa Maria, 1539)


folio (315 x 195mm.), α-β10 γ-υ8 φ6, text in Greek, printed in red and black throughout with woodcut headpieces, woodcut device below colophon, modern tan leather with stepped cross tooled on upper cover, old flyleaves with watermark of the Three Kings (probably German, eighteenth century), lacking title-page and φ1_6 (the latter blank), stained with some fraying at edges, repaired wormholes in lower margin


RARE. The Nicolini da Sabbio brothers printed numerous works aimed at members of the Greek Orthodox Church, instigated by Andrea Cunadis, a merchant of Patras resident in Venice. He died in 1522 and his work was continued by his son-in-law, Damiano Santa Maria, who is mentioned in the colophon here.
