Description

Five paintings from a series depicting various episodes from the Bhagavata Purana, mainly from Book 10 which recounts the birth and early exploits of Krishna, the cowherd God and ninth avatar of Vishnu. The illustrations as follows:

Folio 1: Krishna and Balarama with other students on the left; and at the bottom right, Krishna conversing with a serpent deity and then attacking a demon

Folio 2: An illustration from the early section of the book, related to the creation of the World

Folio 3: Krishna Battling the Armies of the Demon Naraka

Folio 4: The demon Maya Asura and the seven subterranean realms (Atala, Vitala, Sutala, Talatala, Mahatala, Rasatala, Patala)

Folio 5: The pilgrimage of Balarama accompanied by Brahmins (5)
