An important Abbasid brass astrolabe, Iraq, Baghdad, circa 900 AD

brass, engraved in Kufic, rete with dagger-shaped star pointers for 17 stars, comprising two plates with the latitudes 32° (Jerusalem), 33° (Baghdad), 34° (Samarra) and 36° (Mosul, Aleppo and al-Rayy), interior of the mater undecorated, the reverse with altitude scales, with original pin, alidade and horse, with later leather pouch
