Ella Kruglyanskaya (b. 1978 in Riga, Latvia, lives and works in New York, NY) paints and draws bold images which subvert the representation of women which has been canonized in traditions of western painting and visual culture. The female protagonists in her work, rendered in an assertive and graphic gesture, confront their audience with an unabashed femininity that infuses gendered tropes with a brash comedic approach to representation. Ella Kruglyanskaya earned her BFA from the Cooper Union in 2001 and her MFA from Yale in 2006.

Recent solo exhibitions were staged at Bortolami, New York (2021) and Thomas Dane Gallery, London (2020).
