Description
An Egyptian Bronze Figure of the Horus Falcon
26th Dynasty/early Ptolemaic Period, circa 664-200 B.C.
standing on an inscribed rectangular base with the wings crossed over the tail feathers, and wearing a broad collar and the crown of Upper and Lower Egypt with uraeus and fragmentary spiral, the markings and other details carefully engraved, the eyes inset with gold or electrum.
Height from modern base 9 cm.
private collection, early 20th Century (based on custom-made stepped alabaster base inked "Horus.")
acquired by the present owner prior to 1968
The inscription on the four sides of the base translates:
Hathor the Great, Lady of Drunkenness, Giver of Life, prosperity, health, [and] an exalted, great, plentiful, good lifespan, for Sekhet-en-Aset-Nekheb, that she may be compassionate to him, the son of Nes-Min, his mother is the Lady of the house Nyny.
