Mut translates literally to "mother" in ancient Egyptian, a fitting name for the maternal goddess who was associated with giving birth to the waters of Nu, the lifeforce from which the rest of the world originated. Often associated as the consort of the sun god Amun-Ra, Mut was also known as the mother of the lunar god, Khonsu.
