A Greek Marble Votive Relief Fragment

2nd half of the 4th century B.C.


carved in relief with Zeus Meilichios (Hades) seated with his legs crossed, holding a cornucopia in his left hand and a phiale in his right hand, and wearing a long himation falling from his left shoulder, an altar before him, traces of a Greek inscription below.

27.6 by 19.4 by 5.1 cm.

Jan Mitchell (1913-2009), New York, probably acquired in the 1960s or earlier

by descent to the present owner
