Although named after the famous English cabinetmaker of the eighteenth century, the firm Chippendale in Mumbai was created in the decades following the Second World War, selling furnishings in the sleek mid-century modern style popularised in the West by the likes of Charles and Ray Eames, Finn Juhl and Gio Ponti. They were based in the Fort district of Mumbai on Homi Mody Street, also the seat of the Tata Group in Bombay House.
